Nkuruba community child support initiative (NCCSI) was founded by a group of community members in Nkuruba Village kabarole District. It is a registered non profit community based organization and started operations in February 2016.
The NCCSI main objective is to provide quality education within engaging learning environments to underprivileged children within Nkuruba village as well as empower community members for sustainable economic growth.
Since inception in 2016, NCCSI with support from religious leaders and community volunteers has carried out assessments and identified 38 children of these, 4 live under child headed homes however with support from partners and friends, all are currently enrolled in schools.
Nkuruba community child support initiative currently supports over 38 vulnerable children between the ages of 4 and 21 years in different day and boarding schools. These children were identified with the help of religious leaders and community volunteers.
NCCI runs various holiday programs to ensure that the children in its care are receiving an all round education as well continuous counselling, guidance and mentorship to support them to stay in school.
1 in every 10 children of primary school going age (6-12years) in Kabarole district in Uganda have never been in school and 12.5% of children of the same age are not in school. These are the rates as per the 2014 National Population and Housing Census. These have been caused by the poverty and with parents unable to support their children through school, they dropout and search for manual work to supplement their families income. With children unable to study and get a decent future, the circle only continues.
This knowledge is what inspires and pushes us to ensure that more children have a chance at a better future. To ensure that more children have a chance to go through school, we have partnered with community and nearby schools to offer subsidized education to the children that need it the most. Most of the children currently supported by the initiative, are opharned and others are from child headed households.
Nkuruba Community Child Support Initiative is found in Kabarole District, Burahya county, Ruteete Sub County, Rweihamba Village. It’s about 20 kms from Fort Portal Tourism City off Kamwenge Road from Kassisi towards the Kasenda Crater Lakes region.
